Obama Divorce Story: New Book Claims Michelle Nearly Left Barack in 2000

The controversial new biography of President Barack Obama claims that his wife, Michelle Obama, planned to leave the future president in 2000.

Is the divorce story real? Is anything in the book?

The unauthorized biography, which Klein claims is based on nearly 200 interviews, has been dismissed by presidential spokesperson Eric Schultz.

“Ed Klein has a proven history of reckless fabrication in order to sell books,” he said. “Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one.”

Nevertheless, the Obama divorce story is the latest revelation in the book – which also discusses his ex Genevieve Cook – to generate major buzz.

In The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, out this week, Klein claims the divorce nearly happened eight years into the Obamas’ marriage.

After Obama failed to listen to his wife’s warnings in challenging Bobby Rush for his U.S. House seat in 2000 and got creamed, their relationship cooled.

“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy,” Klein reportedly writes.

“He had refused to listen to her warnings about taking on Rush.”

The primary left them in debt and Barack depressed, Klein claims. “Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up,” he writes, citing one of her friends.

“Obama was so depressed that some of his friends worried that he was suicidal,” the book adds, without elaboration on that particular point.

Obama, of course, was still in the Illinois State Senate, and went on to win a U.S. Senate seat in 2004 that helped establish his national credentials.

But Michelle almost vetoed the Senate race, too.

Northwestern University professor Steven Rogers told Klein that Obama talked about his ambition after they met at a golf fund-raiser.

“My wife will not allow me to run for the Senate until I clear up the debts from my unsuccessful run for Congress,” Obama said, according to Rogers.

Selecting a Complete Ecommerce Solution Company for Your Online

Game changing ecommerce website design

For many years, the High Street chain ?Game? has enjoyed spectacular growth, luring boys of all ages (and may be a few girls as well) into their stores. Young people could buy new or used games and trade in their old ones. The stores were a great place of entertainment and turned over an enormous amount of business. For a while, Game cornered the market in retail games sales but in the last two or three years, buying games online has become the norm and although Game offered games online too, they were competing with a great many more online games suppliers, including Amazon, than they are in the High Street, where HMV is their only serious competition.

Perhaps Game has left it too late to adjust their retail model into a more competitive eCommerce solution.

Suddenly, all those prime High Street stores are a massive financial liability and although when they close it will put many people out of work and customers that like to browse for real will be disappointed, maintaining a High Street presence in the current climate is no longer financially viable.

?

What is the eCommerce solution?

There is no doubt that people still like to go out shopping but habits have changed and are continuing to change. London Software suppliers of goods that pay for a High Street presence cannot offer the kind of deals in terms of price that online retailers can. Unfortunately, the online competition is quite happy for their online customers to examine goods in High Street stores and then buy the same goods cheaper online.

?

If you can?t beat ?em, join ?em online

Retailers that have regarded their online operations as add-ons may find it easier said than done to develop a seriously viable online business. The truth is that the internet has created a whole new level of competition that did not exist for retailers before broadband became the norm in every home. The ecommerce genie is definitely out of the bottle and the only answer is to create the kind of ecommerce web site design that turns visitors into paying customers. To do that effectively requires custom software development that is the perfect fit for your business and for your customers, existing and new, rather than a one size fits all web design solution.

Custom software development can feel like a big investment but if your organisation were to fit out a new High Street store, the chances are that it would cost considerably more but interface with fewer customers.

Custom software that is designed and implemented by software developers that understand business can make a tremendous difference to your day to day operations online, especially if it is complemented by the latest search engine optimisation techniques and practices.

Nick Jonas Recalls ‘How To Succeed’ Fan ‘Craziness’

Jonas Brother and co-star Michael Urie, who end their Broadway run Sunday, tell MTV News the fans ‘say some pretty wild things.’

Nick Jonas will end his run in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” when the Broadway show closes Sunday.

The singer, along with his co-star Michael Urie, will no longer play business rivals on the Great White Way, but do continue to hold fond memories of their time in the show.

When MTV News caught up with the actors recently, they recalled some of their favorite fan encounters during their tenure in “How to Succeed.” “The craziest fan encounter? The great thing about the fans is that they are polite during the show,” Jonas said. “At the beginning of the show, they have an opportunity get excited, and then throughout the show, they are very polite.”

Everyone’s polite — at least, until Jonas got his smooch on. “Occasionally, they’ll have little outbursts of craziness,” he remembered. “It usually comes for me during the kissing moment during the show. They can say some pretty wild things I can hear out of the corner of my ear. It’s fun.”

Urie joked, “I actually stand offstage during the kiss and scream things like, ‘Nick, Nick, oh Nick,’ with about that [deep] inflection.”

All joking aside, Urie did have some warm, fuzzy encounters with the show’s fans before every performance. “Before the show, it’s fun to come into the theater every night, because there are people waiting. Sometimes there are people camped out waiting that aren’t even there to see the show,” he said. “They’ve already seen the show or they’re seeing the show in the future, and they’ll be like, ‘Hey Michael, good show.’ And they’re very cool and easygoing.”

Both Jonas and Urie joined the show in January. Their run was expected to go until July 1, but they’re closing a bit early. With the show ending Sunday, Jonas will now devote more time to recording a new album with his brothers. The Jonas Brothers are currently hard at work on their follow-up to 2009′s Lines, Vines and Trying Times.

The term small business marketing encompasses many strategies …

Email marketing is one of the oldest and most effective ways to get new customers online. There are many reasons for this: it?s easy for the customer to use, and it?s easy for the business to produce. Provided you gauge the interests of your contact list correctly, it can be a simple tool for getting more sales than you otherwise would have.

While the concept is simple, the practice is a bit more complex. Your emails need to be interesting or enticing enough to make customers want to read them. They need to change over time ? if you send the same thing over and over, they?ll lose interest, and you?ll lose customers. also, there are laws around what counts as a genuine contact. If you don?t follow these, your business could be weighted with substantial penalties.

The following are six things to consider before your business gets started with email marketing.

The basic function of email marketing is to distribute information about what your business does or will be doing in the future.

?sometimes it could just be for the promotion of a new product or an event,? says Brent Chandler, founder of Zwift. ?It?s all about communication ? building up awareness for whatever it is that the restaurant?s trying to promote.?

This might be as simple as a loyalty system that rewards return customers, or an ongoing series of e-books that educates recipients in a way that relates to your industry. The key with email is to offer something that customers past, present and future will value in some way. If a curious visitor signs up because they can see an obvious benefit, then your business has one more potential customer.

Before you get started, decide what you want to achieve with email marketing, and consider what you have to offer your customers to help make that happen. then, think about how you can sustain their interest over time with different messages that play into the main goal.

For a retail business, the simplest method is to offer discounts and promotions on a variety of different products, for the purpose of driving more sales. A service-based business might not gain as much traction from sending out offers. instead, a series of emails that offered free advice might be a more enticing incentive for people to sign up.

?one of the key things for businesses to understand when they?re creating an email marketing strategy is to put yourself in the shoes of your customer,? says Linda Delphin managing director of Marketing Space. ?I always come back to what?s needed for the customer to find that valuable information. actually taking customers along the journey of why they should be excited about a product or a service definitely has a role to play in email marketing.?

Once you?ve identified what it is you want to achieve, you need to set about putting together a strategy.

If you approach email marketing as a series of one-off messages, you?re missing the point. It?s best to think of it as an ongoing campaign that?s going to keep recipients? attention from week to week. If your messaging lacks focus or is too varied, you?ll lose subscribers.

Email marketing isn?t the kind of activity that sees immediate results. often recipients will stay dormant on a list for a long time before acting on their interest. This is why it?s a bad idea to decide what?s going into an email marketing campaign the day you send it out. If you take time to consider what your audience is interested in, and draw up a plan for content that will hold their attention over a longer period of time, you will be much more likely to get queries and new sales.

?From the perspective of content, it?s really as simple as really understanding who your target market is and drilling down as far as you can into that, so you know what keeps them awake at night, you know what they?re bitching about at barbecues, you know what their biggest dream is, and you can talk to that,? says Victoria Judge, owner of Expert Agency. ?When you make that emotional connection, and you feel that you understand them, that?s when they?ll become your customer.?

The emotional connection she?s referring to needn?t be something as complex as a beautifully written blog post. There can be a basic emotional pull to a message like ?50% off?, provided you send it to the right people.

?Typically, you?d be looking at things like what sort of special you?ve got or what discount ? something that?s actually going to gel with customers.? says Marketing Space?s Delphin. ?just saying ?we?ve got these products, here you go? is not the purpose of email marketing. It?s really to drive something so customers feel like there?s something to entice them into buying or responding.?

The most crucial part of any email marketing effort is the database of contacts you have to send to.

?Email marketing is primarily about having a database ? a list of contacts of people that have expressed an interest in what you do,? says Expert Agency?s Judge.

The quality of a database is also important in email marketing. A quality database is one that?s already aware of your business and what it does. its contacts are more likely to open emails and investigate their contents than ignore or delete them, or unsubscribe altogether. If the contacts aren?t expecting emails from your business, they?re not likely to respond positively. If they are expecting them, then you can assume that they?re interested in your business in some way.

?we have a saying in the industry that you keep communicating with your database through your email marketing until they either buy or they unsubscribe,? says Judge. ?Either of those is a good result, because you don?t want people sitting on your database that are never going to buy what you?ve got.?

Typically, the main part of your database should be made up of existing customer?s emails. Pre-existing customers already know what your business does and how it?s relevant to them, so they have a way of relating to and categorising any marketing material that your business sends them.

The real goal of email marketing is to gain new customers, though. To do this, you need new contacts. How you go about finding these is very important when it comes to maintaining a quality list.

One good way to get new subscribers is to have a sign up form on your website. Content management systems like WordPress often have plugins (add-ons) that help you do this easily.

?You need a web designer who?s going to understand that email marketing software, and he can put the form on your website and on your social media, so that you can start collecting,? says Judge.

To make signing up attractive to new subscribers, you need to show them that the email will be valuable to them in some way. usually, free educational information or product discounts are incentive enough.

It is possible to buy lists of contacts that are relevant to your business, but doing so compromises the quality of your database. bought contacts are never explicitly interested in your business, which means they?re likely to be cold, unresponsive leads. It?s also difficult to tell how relevant a bought list is to your particular business, or even how many of the email addresses are still active.

It might not seem like it, but the time of day, and day of the week, which you choose to send your email is very important.

?at Zwift, we promote restaurants,? says Zwift?s Chandler. ?Targeting someone at 9pm at night [is unwise] because the customers have already eaten, and are maybe not too willing to absorb more food information after a big meal. we try and target people at three and four in the afternoon when three-thirty-itis comes around. If it?s before dinner, they might be thinking about what they?re going to be ordering later on in the day.?

People also respond differently to different sorts of information depending on whether they?re at work or at home. The contents of the email should determine the time of send.

?It?s important to make sure that you?ve got enough time for the customer to not just read the email, but to absorb the information and decide how they?re going to act on it without being stressed that they?re going to run out of time,? continues Chandler, ?unless that?s the kind of campaign you?re going for.?

It?s essential that every contact in your email database has given you permission to market to them via email. This is relevant to the legality of your campaign, but also to how successful it?s going to be.

It?s illegal to send email marketing campaigns to people that haven?t given you permission to do so. Legally, permission is defined in two ways. Implied consent is when you receive a person?s details for any form of business-related communication. It?s less preferable to use implied contacts for marketing ? they might not want sales messages, and so may be much less responsive to them. The other form of permission is express or explicit consent, which means the recipient has indicated they would like to receive marketing information from your business.

Express consent is much better for email marketing than implied consent. If a list is full of people who haven?t given express consent, they?re going to be much less responsive to marketing messages. This means that you?ll get a much lower rate of response, and effectively waste more of your time putting emails together.

The worst-case scenario in sending unsolicited emails is that your business will be penalised by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

?Make sure that everybody that goes into that database has given you permission to contact them in that way,? says Chandler. ?It?s the most important thing. A reputation can disappear overnight with one email that you didn?t get permission for.?

Once you have the beginnings of a database, it?s time to investigate tools for actually sending emails to its contacts. It?s really important not to think of things like MacMail, Outlook or Gmail as adequate email marketing tools. as soon as your database is larger than 30 contacts, you need something more comprehensive.

?Some people still use spreadsheets,? says Expert Agency?s Judge. ?It scares me. If you start emailing from a spreadsheet, you?re laying yourself open to get sued.?

Systems like Mailchimp, AWeber and Campaign Monitor all offer simple, effective ways of sending email out to substantial databases. these systems can also tell you how well your emails are received ? how many of them were opened, how many people clicked through to your website, where in the email they clicked, and how many people unsubscribed altogether. This information is vitally important for the ongoing success of a campaign. If a particular product offer or blog post topic is well received, then you can alter your future emails to cater to that interest.

While these systems usually offer a series of templates on which to base the design of your email, it?s best if you pay the money and get a designer to create a good-looking template for you to use. This will make your business appear appropriately professional, which will lessen unsubscriptions.

Finally, remember that things like Mailchimp, although they are rewarding to play with and have lots of features, are not going to make your emails good. If you create a strong database of receptive contacts, and give them things they value and expect from your business, you?re likely to find success with email marketing.

(AP) ? Remember Newt Gingrich calling Mitt Romney a liar? Michele Bachmann saying Romney’s unelectable? Rick Santorum calling Romney “the worst Republican in the country” to run against President Barack Obama?

They’re hoping you don’t. And acting like it never happened (even though most of their words are just clicks away online.)

One by one ? with the exception of holdout Ron Paul ? the GOP also-rans have coughed up endorsements of their onetime rival. And as they do, they’re pulling rhetorical backflips to distance themselves from their former harsh assessments of Romney.

Don’t try this at home, folks. It takes a professional politician to pull it off with a straight face.

A sampling of the also-rans’ anti-Romney rhetoric when they were candidates and their obligatory niceness after endorsing Romney.

___

RICK SANTORUM

The former Pennsylvania senator still doesn’t have trouble curbing his enthusiasm for Romney. He waited a month after dropping out of the race to endorse Romney, then emailed his tepid endorsement in the dead of night. He finally got out the E-word in the 13th paragraph of his 16-paragraph statement.

THEN:

?”He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.” Santorum later said he was referring to Romney’s standing on health care reform.

?”If Mitt Romney’s an economic heavyweight, we’re in trouble, because he was 47th out of 50 in job creation in the state of Massachusetts when he was governor. He may have had some success at making money for himself and his partners at Bain Capital, and I give him a lot of credit for doing so, but that’s a very different thing than going out and creating an atmosphere for people to create ? that create jobs.”

NOW:

?”There are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong and marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am also comfortable with Gov. Romney on foreign policy matters, and we share the belief that we can never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons. And while I had concerns about Gov. Romney making a case as a candidate about fighting against Obamacare, I have no doubt if elected he will work with a Republican Congress to repeal it and replace it.” ? Endorsement emailed to Santorum supporters.

___

NEWT GINGRICH

Gingrich didn’t formally endorse Romney when he dropped out of the race but spoke well of him and later said that was close enough. The guy who promised not to run down his GOP opponents at the start of the race had some withering things to say about Romney during the heat of the campaign. Gingrich, a former House speaker, would rather you forget that now, though: His anti-Romney videos on YouTube, once public, are now private. The man who repeatedly branded Romney a “Massachusetts moderate” now calls him a “solid conservative.”

THEN:

?”Someone who will lie to you to get to be president will lie to you when he is president.”

?Are you calling Mitt Romney a liar? “Yes.” Questioned about his previous comment.

?”Can we drop a little bit of the pious baloney?” To Romney during a debate.

?”Why would you want to nominate the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama?”

?”We are not going to beat Barack Obama with some guy who has Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island accounts, owns shares of Goldman Sachs while it forecloses on Florida and is himself a stockholder in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while he tries to think the rest of us are too stupid to put the dots together and understand what this is all about.”

?”I think that a bold Reagan conservative with a very strong economic plan is a lot more likely to succeed in that campaign than a relatively timid Massachusetts moderate who even The Wall Street Journal said had an economic plan so timid it resembled Obama.”

NOW:

?”I’m going to campaign for him, I favor him over Obama. I went through, like, seven different issues where I favor him. I’ll do everything I can to help elect Romney. … As far as I’m concerned, I’ve endorsed him.”

?”Compared to Barack Obama, Mitt Romney is a solid conservative. And I think you have to come down to, what’s the choice this November? And the choice is the most radical president in American history and a failed president at the economy and somebody who has a solid record on jobs and who, in fact, on basic principles, is conservative. And I think you can get into arguments about who’s how conservative, but compared to Obama, Mitt Romney is a solid conservative.”

___

MICHELE BACHMANN

Bachmann waited four months after dropping out before she endorsed Romney. The congresswoman from Minnesota campaigned with him in Virginia earlier this month but didn’t bring up health care in their joint appearance.

THEN:

?”He can’t beat Obama because his policy is the basis of Obamacare. The signature issue of Obama is Obamacare. You can’t have a candidate who has given the blueprint for Obamacare. It’s too identical. It’s not going to happen.”

?”He’s been very inconsistent on his positions. He’s been on both sides of the abortion issue, on both sides of the issue with same-sex marriage … he was for the TARP bill, the $700 billion bailout and the global warming initiatives.”

NOW:

?”I am endorsing Gov. Mitt Romney for president of the United States, a man who will preserve the American dream of prosperity and liberty.”

?”This is what victory looks like.” Campaigning with Romney in Portsmouth, Va., on the day she endorsed him.

?”He’s very smart. He has a very optimistic message. Women trust him because they see, this is a man who started a business from scratch, for heaven’s sake.”

?”One thing that Mitt Romney has demonstrated, he will repeal Obamacare. That’s a big compare and contrast between Barack Obama. We will never get rid of socialized medicine, which is Obamacare, under Barack Obama. Mitt Romney has committed himself to repealing Obamacare. … A lot of people know Mitt Romney’s positive agenda.”

___

RICK PERRY

If he couldn’t have the GOP nomination himself, Perry still wasn’t about to back Romney. As he dropped out of the race, the Texas governor endorsed Gingrich. He didn’t come around to endorsing Romney until Gingrich announced last month that he was planning to drop out.

THEN:

?”While you were the governor of Massachusetts in that period of time, you were 47th in the nation in job creation. … You failed as the governor of Massachusetts.”

?”If you are a victim of Bain Capital’s downsizing, it’s the ultimate insult for Mitt Romney to come to South Carolina to tell you he feels your pain. Because he caused it.”

?”I have no doubt that Mitt Romney was worried about pink slips ? whether he’d have enough of them to hand out.”

NOW:

?”Mitt Romney has earned the Republican presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization and a disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed, job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration.”

___

JON HUNTSMAN

The former Utah governor endorsed Romney at the same time he dropped out of the race in January, but there was no joint appearance.

THEN:

?”You can’t be a perfectly lubricated weather vane on the important issues of the day.”

?”Gov. Romney enjoys firing people. I enjoy creating jobs.”

?”When you combine a record of uncertainty ? running first as a senator, as a liberal; governor as a moderate; then as a conservative for the presidency, people wonder where your core is.”

?”He’s been on three sides of every major issue of the day. And because of that it’s going to be very tough in the end to be able to make that trust argument to the American people.”

NOW:

?”It is now time for our party to unite around the candidate best equipped to defeat Barack Obama. Despite our differences and the space between us on some of the issues, I believe that candidate is Gov. Mitt Romney.”

?”I think he’s the best equipped by far to deal with the economic issues and challenges that confront us. … He’s grown a lot, he’s learned a lot. He’s probably better prepared to lead.”

___

RON PAUL

The scrappy Texas congressman was the last man standing among Romney’s GOP opponents, and he’s not ready to make nice yet. Paul announced this week that he won’t campaign anymore, but he’s still collecting delegates at state party conventions and could give Romney grief at the national nominating convention in Tampa, Fla., come August. Paul ran some scorching ads against Romney earlier this year but shied away from going after Romney in person.

THEN:

?Narrator in Ron Paul radio ad: “Mitt Romney can’t fight against Obamacare because he supported the same mandates and government takeovers as governor of Massachusetts. Romney can’t stand up against more bailouts because he supported them. He can’t lead the charge to shrink the government because he has grown it. Romney’s record is liberal and putting him up against Obama is a recipe for defeat.”

NOW:

?”Not soon.” Paul’s answer when he asked Tuesday when he’ll endorse Romney.

Easy To Apply Home Improvement Tips | flooring pittsburgh

Improving ones home has become a favored topic with plenty of websites, TV shows and books tackling every area of it. But many people procrastinate when it comes to starting their own projects that could make their home more comfortable and valuable. If you want to start this weekend, we will be focusing on home improvement ideas that are simple and practical in this article.

Adding a skylight to your ceiling can have an amazing effect on the whole room. It can improve the appearance of your home in an instant and creates a light, airy atmosphere. When you have skylights, you?ll be able to do without electric lights more of the time, and in winter they can provide you with some of the sun?s warmth. Installing a skylight may not be as complicated as you think, and you can look into doing it yourself or having a contractor do it for you. Skylights are manufactured in plastic or glass and can accommodate most needs in your house.

If you have had the pleasure to enter a home that has skylights installed, you understand the great spaciousness and light atmosphere.

No one enjoys dealing with garbage, but everyone has to one way or another. A garbage disposal can cut down your garbage and that will help to make your life more utilitarian. Often times you can place a garbage disposal right there with your kitchen sink, plus they do not cost a ton of money and they are pretty simple to install. The main advantage of this is convenience, in that it can reduce the amount of garbage you have to deal with and the messiness of dealing with food wastes. Saverin dumps US citizenship ahead of Facebook IPO

SINGAPORE (AP) ? Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin has renounced his U.S. citizenship, a move expected to save him hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes stemming from the company’s impending initial public offering.

The Brazil-born 30-year-old became a U.S. citizen in 1998 but has lived in Singapore since 2009. Giving up his citizenship will allow him to avoid paying taxes on billions of dollars of capital gains when Facebook launches its IPO Friday. Singapore does not have a capital gains tax.

Saverin gave up his citizenship in the first quarter of this year, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service said.

“Eduardo recently found it to be more practical to become a resident of Singapore since he plans to live there for an indefinite period of time,” Saverin’s New York-based spokesman Tom Goodman said Tuesday in a statement.

Goodman said that because Saverin plans to invest in Brazilian and global companies that have strong interests in entering Asian markets, “it made the most sense for him to use Singapore as a home base.”

Saverin has a 4 percent stake in Facebook, which has headquarters in Menlo Park, California. Analysts say the company could be worth $100 billion.

Saverin, who moved to the U.S. from Brazil in 1992, founded Facebook with Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 while the two were students at Harvard University. Saverin gained additional fame when his conflict with Zuckerberg and departure from the company was depicted in the 2010 movie “The Social Network.”
